Discipling & Mentoring Men

Can you think of any patterns destructive to today’s world and society that are not prosecuted primarily by men: substance abuse, domestic abuse, homicide, child abandonment, property crime, pornography, sex trafficking, etc.? The most notorious dictators and perpetrators of genocide – Stalin, Hitler, Nero, Pol Pot, Idi Amin, Omar al-Bashir – all of them men. A sinister and pervasive evil evades easy detection behind these past truths and present patterns: wholesale abdication of male responsibility and widespread excusal. The path to and root of male abdication is a lack of godly fathering.

The solution to any problem becomes self-evident once the problem is well defined. Stated in the boldest terms I know how: The greatest need and the ultimate answer to male irresponsibility and evil is the presence of godly fathers – men who know how to encourage, affirm and love younger men, and do it.

In I Corinthians 4:15-16, the Apostle Paul provides us with a strong solution: “I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel. I urge you then, be imitators of me. Millions are “taught” via the pulpit through Sunday morning messages and expensive modern media. Yet, all heaven cries out for one man of God to disciple one son on Mondays!

No spiritual fathers adopting sons equals no discipleship. True discipleship equals spiritual dads willfully mentoring spiritual sons and investing into their souls -- nothing less, nothing more. Where men are the problem, godly men are the answer.

The singular answer to the greatest need: spiritual dads. Will you lay down your personal agenda and pick up the mantle of “discipler of men’” today? Heaven awaits your answer.
