Let’s face it – we all want our lives to impact this world in a profound and way. Jesus gave us the game plan for how to live a life of high impact when He said in Matthew 28:19 to “go and make disciples…” That’s His plan; His simple, yet profound plan to impact the world – beginning with you!

Most of us are taught to focus on evangelism, or “making Christians.” That’s a great mission, but we fall short of Jesus’ plan if we don’t continue in making disciples. Did you know that the word “Christian” is mentioned only three times in the New Testament, while the word “disciple” is mentioned 269 times? The emphasis is obviously on the word “disciple” and from this we know it’s crucial to become one and help others to do the same. But what is a disciple?

First, a disciple is a learner. True learning, Biblically speaking, only takes place when it changes how you live. Second, a disciple is a follower. This is a person who “sticks to” the Master and desires to model the life of Jesus. Third, a disciple is a reproducer. Reproducing discipleship is critical for impacting the lives of those around you, yet sadly it is the most neglected part of disciple making. Remember, Jesus commanded us to “go and make disciples.” If we aren’t reproducing discipleship in others, we are missing the mark on living a life of high impact.

Think what would happen if you decided to disciple two people a year, and at the end of that year all three of you decided to disciple two new people each, and so on. At the end of ten years you would have impacted a minimum of 59,000 people! Fifty-nine thousand people would be living powerful lives as disciples of Jesus because YOU first determined to reproduce discipleship in others.
