Who is this course designed for?
Leaders – men and women within the ministry and/or marketplace arenas – who desire to live and lead with godly character, wisdom and perspective.
What are the three Modules of ALJ?
Module One - The Leader’s Foundation ~ August – November - 12 weeks
- Beginning with orientation, August 26-27, 2011, this material covers the leader’s personal walk with God helping them to walk in spiritual health, freedom, and living out of godly values and priorities.
- A Discipleship Journey is the foundation to this first Module.
Module Two - Leadership Issues ~ January 2 - February 28, 2012
- This part of ALJ focuses on key issues that every leader faces and needs to address through the lens of the ways of God. Some Topics Covered: Defining Leadership, Leading in the Ways of God, Leading out of Relationships and Authority and Power.
Module Three - Leading a Focused Life ~ March – May - 12 weeks
- Beginning with a retreat, March 1- 4, 2012 this material will walk participants through the process of how God develops a leader. There are nine components to the 'Focused Life Project' that will help in understanding how to cooperate with God in the various seasons of life and provide valuable insight to use in discipling and mentoring those within your spheres of influence. At the end of this module you will have completed a personal 'Focused Life Project'.
Focused Life Project - Dave Buehring teaches material originated by Dr. Bobby Clinton that aids each participant in learning how God develops a leader over the course of a lifetime. During this 12-week focus participants will create their personal life and leadership timeline. The project is due May 31, 2012.
When does the course begin?
Orientation is August 26-27, 2011.
What are the core components of ALJ?
- Materials and Downloads – Weekly material, teaching and practical application.
- Orientation – August 26 - 27, 2011
- Module 3 Retreat ~ March 1 - 4, 2012 Nashville, TN.
- Leadership Pods – Monthly gathering of leaders in your area to talk, process and pray though the materials of the course.
- Conference Calls - These 60-90-minute monthly scheduled calls are hosted by Dave Buehring and the ALJ Guides. Each call provides helpful discussions along with life application of the materials covered throughout the course.
- A Focused Life Project – Participants create their own personal time-line project with components that highlight invaluable life and leadership perspectives. This part of the course will begin at the March ALJ Module and will conclude with a finished project due May 31, 2012.
What, when and where is the Leading a Focused Life Retreat?
This "workshop' retreat is a key components to begin Leading Focused Life, Module 3. The retreat will be held March 1 - 4, 2012 at Camp Garner Creek in Dickson, TN just outside of Nashville. This retreat begins Thursday at 4:00 PM and concludes immediately following the last session at 11:00 AM on Sunday morning.
What does the retreat include?
- Community Connection – Relationship is a key to successful leadership. These retreats allow participants to connect more personally with other leaders taking the course.
- In-Depth Teaching – Dave Buehring and other Lionshare leaders will teach materials as it relates to the course topics. The August Retreat is designed to teach and assist leaders to live a life of freedom in Christ and addresses issues in the leader’s life. The March Retreat is essential for laying a foundation for Leading a Focused Life.
- Personal Time and Ministry – Time is built in for personal reflection as well as for personal ministry should that be needed and desired.
- Meals, Lodging and Materials – These will be provided for each participant and are built in to your course costs. Each participant is responsible to cover their own ground and/or air transportation for this event.
What is a Leadership Pod?
A group of leaders that will be relating together throughout the course. Each Pod will have an ALJ Guide to help facilitate the group. Each Pod will gather together each month for the purpose of learning and connecting.
There are three types of Leadership Pods:
Regional Pod– A group defined by the region they live within (north/south/east/west).
Relational Pod – A local/national group of leaders from the same organization OR a group of friends going through ALJ together.
Domain Pod - A group of leaders from one of the Dozen Domains.
When do the Leadership Pods meet?
Leadership Pods can meet bi-montly or weekly according to the needs of the individual group.
What is a Pod Call?
A Pod Call is a monthly conference call with Dave Buehring and ALJ Guides to discuss questions and personal application of the course material. Each participant is given a 1-800 number, along with a participant’s code, for calls within the United States and Canada. If you use a cell phone, you will be responsible for your personal minute’s usage.
What material is provided?
Online calendar will give you access to all web material; audio teachings along with all corresponding PDF notes. There are about 70 practical and leadership focused teachings for this course. Participants can listen to these online, save them to a CD, or play them on their iPod. All participants will receive a course notebook and required reading materials. Downloads will be made available for each component of ALJ.
How much time do I need to schedule each week for course work?
The ALJ content is equivalent to a Masters-level course, please schedule four (4-6) hours per week for teaching and reading assignments. Additional time will be needed for Leadership Pods and conference calls.

We have two payment plans for each Module:
- Pay in full - Payment in full prior to each Module.
- Payment Plan - Non-refundable registration fee followed by equal monthly payments.
The only additional costs to you are your air and/or ground transportation for the April & March ALJ Retreats.
